AN OASIS OF ACACIA SCENTS

The Special Nature Reserve “Bagremara” is located in Vojvodina, in the southwestern part of Bačka, north of the settlement of Bačka Palanka, covering an area of about 117 ha.

The Special Nature Reserve “Bagremara” consists of two units – the loess terrace and the alluvial terrace of the Danube. Atmospheric and groundwater are essential for the survival of the forest, as there are no permanent surface waters. During periods of heavy rainfall and due to poor drainage, water remains in the area until summer.

DID YOU KNOW?

In Serbia, hellebore can be found only in Bagremara. This perennial plant from the buttercup family is a strictly protected species and classified among the critically endangered species in Serbia, while it is also rare in neighboring countries. It blooms during February and March, when its sun-yellow flowers defy the snow cover and color the ground layer of the black locust forest.

In the area of the Special Nature Reserve “Bagremara”, a two-level protection regime has been established. In most parts of the reserve, there are restrictions on the use of natural resources, and all activities carried out are aimed at scientific research, studies, and organized educational programs for visitors.

About 70 bird species live in the reserve, 30 of which nest in this area, while 93 insect species have also been recorded. Almost the entire surface of the reserve is covered with forest, and today Bagremara represents a rich black locust habitat with very few black walnut and pedunculate oak trees, while elder occurs as an accompanying woody species.

During walks along the marked trails through the forest complex, the natural wealth of the reserve awakens our dormant senses with colors and fragrances that change throughout the year. The colors shift, starting with the golden-yellow of the hellebore announcing the end of winter, followed in spring by the fresh green of the black locust forest adorned with a fragrant carpet of violets. Everywhere present, black locust and elder fill the forest with the whiteness of their blossoms and intoxicating scents. In summer, the peace of the forest is enriched by the song of numerous birds. The autumn colors of Bagremara and the rustle of fallen leaves announce the winter slumber, which will be interrupted by the cheerful buds of the hellebore.

HOW TO GET THERE?

HOW TO SPEND YOUR TIME?

We offer you the opportunity to discover a variety of educational contents, while at the same time enjoying an engaging recreational walk during which you will become acquainted with the reserve.

Visiting hours must be harmonized with the conditions prescribed by the protection regimes of this reserve (time of year, number of visitors, code of conduct, etc.), and all organized tourist visits must be announced in advance to the agency Vojvodinašume – Turist.

We gather at the entrance to the reserve, where the Educational Walking Trail begins. The trail extends for 2.5 km, equipped with information boards, directional signs, and rest areas. During the walk, accompanied by a professional guide, visitors are introduced—through an educational narrative—to protected plant and animal species, enjoy the forest ecosystem, and have the opportunity to photograph interesting details.

Walking along the Educational Trail, we arrive at the Ecological Shelter – where we organize an Outdoor Classroom for you. The capacity of the shelter is up to 25 visitors, and it serves as a venue for presentations about the natural values of the protected area. It is equipped with wooden furnishings: tables, benches, as well as informational and educational panels.

If you have a full day at your disposal, at the exit of the protected area you will find designated picnic fire pits and barbecue sites, fully equipped with outdoor furnishings. These facilities are ideal for families and larger groups.

Svoju posetu rezervatu možete nastaviti i obilaskom lokaliteta u Bačkoj Palanci i okolini: poznatih plaža, muzeja, ergelu Karađorđevo, Dvorac Dunđerskih u Čelarevu i drugo.

All information regarding programs and visits to the Reserve can be obtained from the agency “Vojvodinašume–Turist” Petrovaradin, Preradovićeva 2 – Office hours: weekdays from 07:00 to 15:00.
