After being nominated for the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (awarded by the Europarc Federation) and completing all required steps – establishing a Stakeholders’ Forum, drafting a strategy and action plan, filling out an extensive application form, and undergoing on-site verification – the Special Nature Reserve “Gornje Podunavlje” received this prestigious certificate on November 18, 2014. The official award ceremony was held on December 11, 2014, in the European Parliament in Brussels, and that date is taken as the beginning of the implementation of all planned activities.
The re-certification process for the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in the Special Nature Reserve “Gornje Podunavlje” was carried out from September 20 to 22, 2021, when the expert team of the Europarc Federation decided to extend this certificate for the following five-year cycle. On behalf of PE “Vojvodinašume”, the prestigious award for the Special Nature Reserve “Gornje Podunavlje” was received by Director Roland Kokai at the official ceremony held in the European Parliament in Brussels on December 2, 2022.
In this way, the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism adventure of the Special Nature Reserve “Gornje Podunavlje” continued. The company’s original orientation was to harmonize the interests of nature conservation with the development of tourism, to innovate tourism products with a focus on ecotourism and rural tourism, to enhance the content of attractive destinations, and to foster cooperation with stakeholders within and around the protected area.
